Police Headwear

The hats worn by the major East German Police agencies closely resemble those worn by the armed forces. They were made using the same materials, including cockades and capcords, and following the same basic designs. The color of the hats varied, with each Police agency having a dedicated color and possibly other unit peculiarities noted below, but otherwise the biggest difference between the visor hats, overseas caps, fur hats and other headwear worn by Police is that they were marked “MdI” (Ministry of the Interior), whereas the headwear worn by the armed forces were marked “NVA” (National People’s Army).
